Hi! I’m Isa and I’m passionate about yoga for many reasons. I turned to yoga hoping that it would help with a shoulder injury that was proving difficult to heal.
Yoga has given me so much, in so many ways.
It’s been a long road to regain some flexibility and strength in my shoulder and I am often reminded that it is still an ongoing process. For the first time in a long while though I felt hope and also excitement at the positive changes yoga brought me. I also learnt a lot about myself and realised that respecting and protecting my boundaries was also key, and something that I am not always so good at. Learning to recognise this and inner acceptance have been major milestones in the process.
Yoga has also brought me a sense of calm and peace that I thought at times was not possible. A key part of yoga is working with breath and while this sounds easy it can be very difficult. However, when you let go and find your rhythm it feels great, especially to feel this freedom of breath and clarity that follows.
It was my own personal experience of yoga and the benefits that it brings that inspired me to take a 200-Hr teacher training course in 2014 and later a 500-Hr vinyasa training. In addition, I followed trainings on alignment, physical adjustments and working with trauma as these topics interest me in particular. Some of these additional trainings include Trauma Sensitive Yoga and Prison Yoga. I also followed a yin training which has given me different insights. In fact, it often feels that one aspect of my yoga practice leads me to another aspect and so on. It is truly a process of continuous learning.
I feel can that we live in a crazy – and sometimes overwhelming – world – but having a solid base in yoga and a reminder that we have a connection to the earth gives us stability and a sense of steadiness. There is an opportunity for work with change and to restore balance in our lives, and also in our relationship with the world in which we live.
We all have so much to give and it is great to live to our full potential.
