Several years ago I read an article about a woman who had started to train some bald ibises how to migrate by encouraging them to follow her in her light aircraft. It seems they had forgotten how to do this themselves as a result of being almost made extinct and living only in captivity. I was fascinated and told my physiotherapist at that time that I needed a career change.
Now there is a an update to this story.. these women are still doing this work and have now been leading these wonderful birds along their migration route from Germany to Italy for five years. It looks to be hard work and not entirely without challenges but it is great to see this commitment.
