Ever noticed how your life becomes busier and in an attempt to keep up, you start to drop some of the small things which give you pleasure? Perhaps it was just taking a stroll around the block in the evening or allowing yourself the time to lounge with a coffee ..?
For me it was taking some time to read in bed before drifting off to sleep. As a bookworm, there’s always a pile of books nearby waiting to be read, or one being carried around with me or left at work for lunch-break reading.
But I stopped reading in bed, deciding that I needed sleep more than anything. In fact, I did myself an injustice because reading can be such a calming habit, especially just before falling asleep. It gives you a chance to let your thoughts slide into another world, albeit sometimes a fantasy one, you can identify with the characters in the story or just take in information in a gentler way than from a screen and the inevitable glare.
So .. I started to make time to read again and over the space of the last few weeks, it’s become a habit again. It may be that I cut my reading time to just 5 minutes if it’s already late but that 5 minutes is just nice for bringing my thoughts to someone or something else and letting the day go.
I’m currently (re)reading the Bhagavad Gita and drifting off with thoughts of Arjuna and Krishna.
