It’s been a while since I last posted… I have somehow the feeling that I may have said that before, probably when I last posted … back in 2021…
So here goes… a lot has happened since my last post, some of which I may share and some I probably won’t. But let’s focus on the here and how and what triggered this post.
I took a step into the unknown last weekend and went to an area I’d visited only once before and took myself on a really long walk, in fact 20km with a bike ride there and back too.
Why was this such an event? Other than the fact that it was a incredibly long walk and also a fairly hot day…
It’s been a while since I walked on my own and also a while since I got myself into gear and organised a day out for myself. In doing so, I realised that I really needed to put everything aside and do something different. I headed to a nature reserve nearby Amsterdam, ‘t Twiske, and walked … and walked.
My walk took me through busier areas, past a beach and picnic areas, but also to empty pathways, bordered on either side with flowers and shrubs. The sky was blue, I had my camera with me and I just followed my path, pit stopping every so often for water and a snack.
And it was on my lunch stop, where I sat on a bench with no-one in sight and just blue sky and yellow and white flowers around, that I remembered how a favourite online yoga teacher talked about the moment when you come into calmness, the wheels of the mind slow, stop turning and even start to go backwards. I sat in the sun and the silence… and briefly, just briefly, I had this fleeting and wonderful moment of calm, of stillness. The city felt a long way away and I realised yet again, how wonderful it is to be outside in nature, surrounded by plants and trees and wildlife.
